Esperanza International, Inc. is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-governmental organization that works to aid communities adversely affected by toxic contamination both through the collaborative development of international environmental policy and the education of students and professionals globally. While the international community remains dependent on oil and other natural resources, individuals often fail to recognize that their daily consumption fuels a system that marginalizes others and devastates global environments. There is too little discourse examining the implications of modern society’s drive to seek and consume natural resources.Whether it is in the Ecuadorian Amazon or the Niger River Delta, extraction creates deadly pollution that has severe social and environmental consequences, including disease, inequity, unrest, and ecological destruction. It is imperative that the international community endeavor to support those adversely affected by contamination and to prospectively hinder future detriment.
